Before you purchase any cleaning product ask yourself a few simple questions:

- Is there is a safer, gentler alternative?
- Can this product be safely stored?

It's easy to learn to make your own cleaning products with natural ingredients.

Baking Soda - absorbs odors, deodorizes, mild abrasive
The virtues of baking soda cannot be emphasized enough. It's amazing in its powers to eat up chemical oders. I always keep baking soda in the kitchen and use it in place of commercial scouring powder.

Borax- disinfects, deodorizes, inhibits mold

Australian Tea Tree Oil - this essential oil is an excellent fungicide and bactercide.

Citrus Seed Extract - Citrus fruit has awesome cleaning properties.  Grapefruit seed extract is considered antifungal, antimicrobial and antibacterial.  It is used as a persevative in many cosmetics.

For more information visit www.epa.gov, the Web site of the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA advises buying only nontoxic, unscented cleaning products such as those that can be found from mail-order sources or in health-food stores. Another possibility is to substitute gentler products such as baking soda, vinegar, salt and vegetable oil-based liquid soap for most household cleaning
